Nigeria’s creative industry continues to grow rapidly, with Nollywood recognised as one of the largest film industries in the world. Kano also occupies an important place in the industry through its Hausa-language film sector, widely known as Kannywood.
The Professional Certificate in Theatre and Performing Arts is designed to strengthen the technical, creative, ethical, and professional skills of aspiring and practising performers, actors, production personnel, and creative entrepreneurs.
The programme encourages participants to combine traditional Northern Nigerian storytelling and cultural expressions with modern theatre and film-production techniques. It also promotes the use of performing arts as a tool for public education, social awareness, cultural preservation, unity, and youth empowerment.
Theatre and performing arts can help communities address key issues such as education, health, governance, human rights, peacebuilding, gender inclusion, and youth development. By engaging young people productively, the programme can also support creativity, employment, entrepreneurship, and positive social behaviour.
